In honor of International Women’s Day this year, we celebrated our own accomplishments – both professional and personal – at the Bridge to Brilliance Conference in Philadelphia. A day dedicated to women’s empowerment and that unique all-encompassing air of fabulousness we all carry, every day.
The event, organized by Albrecht Events, LLC and held at the always remarkable Four Seasons Hotel, catered to an enthusiastic crowd full of badass working women and overflowing with female energy. For many of us – including the team here at Grimm & Grove – finding a like-minded crowd that shared many of the same everyday challenges both at work and at home was so validating, and deeply meaningful as well.
In the true spirit of the event and in line with our commitment to sharing knowledge, here’s what we took away:
The path to success should always start with happiness.
Emma Seppälä, Ph.D. and Science Director of the Center of Compassion and Altruism Research and Education at Stanford University, shared her tips on finding power in your pursuit of happiness from her best selling book The Happiness Track. We learned that taking just a few minutes to do simple things that bring us joy each day can change our mindset from overwhelmed to happy, and lead us on a much faster track to even more success.
Success requires real commitment and an openness to nonstop growth.
Spiritual therapist, podcaster and best-selling author of The Motherhood Evolution: How Thriving Mothers Raise Thriving Children shared her thoughts on therapeutic growth and inner healing. And WHYY’s Tracey Matisak moderated a panel on the importance of choosing self acceptance over self-criticism.
It’s only been a few weeks, but a few ideas worth sharing have already sprung to mind for taking better care of ourselves:
- Hang with the birds on the PA Commonwealth’s Eagle Cam every morning over your daily cup of joe.
- Drink a new protein shake or healthy drink every morning, we’ve got it bad for the smoothie recipes over at Be Well by Kelly.
- Try your hand at an adult coloring book, we love Color Me Beautiful, Women of the World.
- Read just a few pages of that book you haven’t had time for yet, we’re into everybody’s favorite Kristin Hannah’s wonderful world of badass women, including NY Times best sellers The Nightingale and The Women.
- Download Sattva for guided meditations, chants and mantras to help you find some peace whenever and wherever you need it.
Most importantly, if you’re guilty – as many of us are – of being hard on yourself, try and take a beat and think about why. Because at the end of the day, we’re all pretty amazing in our own right and deserve to be celebrated day in and day out – together.
